Give an agent live web results without a search contract
Neural and keyword web search, find-similar and grounded answers on one endpoint. Billed per search in USDC, with no monthly plan and no API key to manage.
Web search API for LLMs and agents: neural search, find similar, contents, answer
Four requests on one path prefix, each its own priced call: search runs a neural or keyword query over the live web with an optional category filter and domain include/exclude lists; find-similar returns pages semantically near a URL you supply; contents extracts clean text from a list of URLs and is priced per URL rather than per call; answer returns a grounded answer with the sources it drew on.
A typical agent loop is search, then contents on the handful of results worth reading, then answer — three requests, three prices, each quoted before it runs. The parameter table below is the search request the endpoint validates.
How to call the web search API — query, category, domain filters
One endpoint, priced in dollars before it runs and settled in USDC. No API key and no account — the request pays for itself.

Web search for AI agents: from Claude Code, OpenClaw or the SDK
In Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline and any other MCP host, this is the blockrun_exa tool of the BlockRun MCP server — the agent calls it like any other tool and the result comes back in the conversation. In OpenClaw, Codex and Hermes, ClawRouter exposes the same catalog. In your own code, the Python and TypeScript SDKs wrap the endpoint above with types; any HTTP client works too. Every harness, with its setup →
No account and no API key stand between an agent and the first call: the request is quoted in dollars and the agent's client pays it. A team that prefers keys gets one, with a monthly invoice.
Web search API vs Tavily, SerpAPI, Brave Search and Exa direct
An agent that needs the live web usually picks one of four things: a SERP scraper (SerpAPI and its peers), which returns what Google shows; a search API built for LLMs (Tavily, Brave Search API), which returns pages and snippets shaped for a prompt; a neural index (Exa), which returns pages by meaning; or a full search-and-read pipeline the agent assembles itself. Each needs its own key and its own monthly plan.
This endpoint is the neural index — Exa's — with keyword search, find-similar, content extraction and a grounded answer on the same path prefix, each priced per request with no plan. A typical loop is search, then contents on the handful of results worth reading, then answer: three requests, three prices, each quoted before it runs.
What it is not: a Google results scraper. If the job is "what does the first page of Google say", a SERP API is the right tool. If the job is "find pages about this, read them, and answer", this is.

Web search API questions: neural vs keyword, freshness, extraction, pricing
What is a web search API for LLMs?
An endpoint that returns live web results shaped for a model to read — pages, clean text and sources — rather than a ranked list of blue links. This one runs neural or keyword search, find-similar, content extraction and a grounded answer.
Neural search vs keyword search — which does the API use?
Both. Neural search matches pages by meaning and is the default; keyword search matches the words. The request picks one, and either can be filtered by category and by domain include or exclude lists.
How is the web search API priced?
Per request, in USDC, at the rates on this page: a search, a find-similar and an answer each cost one call, and content extraction is priced per URL. Each step of a multi-step loop is its own quoted request.
Can I extract the full text of a page with the search API?
Yes. The contents request takes a list of URLs and returns clean text for each, priced per URL, so an agent pays to read only the results it chose.
How fresh are web search API results?
The index is live and crawled continuously; the answer request reads the pages it cites at request time. The docs describe the date filters for constraining results to a window.
Can I restrict the web search to certain domains?
Yes. Search takes domain include and exclude lists and an optional category filter, so results can be limited to, or kept away from, the sites you name.
Web search API vs Tavily, SerpAPI, Brave Search or Exa direct?
SerpAPI scrapes Google's results; Tavily and Brave return LLM-shaped snippets; Exa direct is this index behind its own key and plan. This page is the neural index plus extraction and answers, per request, with no key and no plan.
Can an AI agent call the web search API directly?
Yes — that is the intended use. The agent pays per search from its own balance, with no human account or key to provision.
Do I need an Exa API key or a search plan?
No. BlockRun settles each request with the provider; there is no separate contract, key or monthly plan on your side.
Two ways to run this
Get an API key
Sign in, get a key, and call the same endpoints with usage billed to your account. For teams that want one invoice instead of one wallet.
Get an API keyOr let your agent pay per call, in USDC
No account, no API key. Three steps, and the last one is the request this page is about.
- Point your agent at BlockRun
Install ClawRouter, or add the BlockRun MCP server to Claude Code, Cursor, Codex or OpenClaw. Any OpenAI-compatible client works too — change the base URL, nothing else.
curl -fsSL https://blockrun.ai/ClawRouter-update | bash - Fund a wallet with USDC
Send USDC to a wallet on Base or Solana. There is no account to create and no API key to issue: the wallet is the account, and it pays per call.
- Call Web Search API
The first call returns HTTP 402 with the exact price, your agent signs it, and the answer comes back. Payment settles on-chain; nothing is charged if the call fails.
